For about a week now, the Hatz engine has suddenly started smoking heavily and throwing oil out of the air filter. I could always notice a difference in compression between the two cylinders, but I suspect that one of the heads is now completely cracked. Fortunately, we found a donor block last winter that still has one good head on it. I took that off tonight, because I would like to make one (reasonably) good head out of two blocks. One head is indeed cracked, the other one still seems good. And saw that the seal is no more than a large copper ring (92x112mm). Original these rings cost around €100/st and then you have one from the ancient factory stock. Would there perhaps be an affordable alternative for this? Or after annealing, would these rings still be usable?
