Kramer Prototype van Kramer U800

Kramer Prototype | Picture made by Kramer U800

Photo of 2 Kramer Prototypes, the KL600 and KL800. The agricultural versions of the U540 and U800 To increase Kramer's customer base, development of the KL600 was started on a specially adapted model of the U540 for agriculture. As many existing parts of the short version of the U540 as possible had to be used. To begin with, the track width had to be reduced to 1470 millimeters for agriculture. Also, the hood had to be shortened and the convertible cab had to be moved as far forward as possible. The rear axle had no suspension. The eighth gear was locked to reduce the maximum speed to 36 km/h. The windshield could be folded away if necessary, but visibility to the rear right and rear was very limited. Matching the gears with the PTO shaft revolutions was inadequate and the turning radius of nearly eleven meters (!) was far too large Only one prototype was probably built in 1962 and no further delivery to customers took place. As with the KL600, Kramer naturally wanted to develop a variant especially suitable for agriculture from the short version of the six-cylinder U800. Two prototypes of this were probably built, one with convertible cab and one with a very narrow hood, with the driver and passenger seats arranged sideways. But even here the same disadvantages as those of the KL600 were clearly visible and noticeable. So further production probably did not take place either....
