Invested in a set of nut splitters. In view of the rather rusty eichus, and because you can't get to everything with the grinding tool. This way you do not run the risk of damaging your thread. Now loosen the brake drums, and replace them inside with new stuff. Originally, the brakes work with a cable, but that is no longer available. We are now going to make a "normal" braking system. Fortunately, complete sets are offered for these VW drums.
