Aug. 20, 2021. Photo of a Massey Ferguson 3115 with Vaia 16-tonner, busy driving onions. In Tholen, we are starting the sowing onions again. The onions that will be loaded this week and next week often go off the land. Lots of kilos and low prices this year so far. The neighbor loaded them up and drove them to his farm to transfer to trucks. To have some extra buffer he came to us for a tipper truck. The 3115 can still do this job just fine. I think the neighbor's tractor was bought new at the time and is still doing fine. The Vaia tipper (2005) was purchased used around 2010. The asking price then was 15,000 euros with these 600/××r26 tires. The tipper is as big as our Mullie tipper in terms of capacity.(Full of wheat with a hl weight of 78 we load both tippers 16 tons). Here in the neighborhood we fall softly a bit out of tune with these "small" tippers, but exchange for 18 ton tipper I find a bit useless (same axles, same cylinder, 2.5 tons more wheat, 1 ton less soil) exchange for 22 tons: Then I want larger tires (30.5 inches) and then the Amac harvester does not fit so well anymore and the tractors are also on the small side. Also, buying such tippers is rather pricey. In the future we will have to I guess, because tipper driving is often a bit of work for the occasional driver; and there are fewer and fewer of them because a tractor license is quite pricey. We often drive 3 carts now, while the neighbors drive home almost as much with 2 carts.
