Also this year New Holland could not be missing at the Retro Oogstdag in Aalter (B). Until today, we are still the only harvest day in Belgium where several corn harvesters can be seen by the general public Since New Holland was the main sponsor of our event, there was a big New Holland FR machine at the entrance. Then, of course, the older generation could not be left behind. Besides a New Holland 717 2-row chopper and a John Deere tractor, there was also this handsome New Holland 1880 of the Aertgeerts family from Langdorp Early on, the Aertgeerts family came to our first harvest day in 2016. Father Wim said to son Jonas, we also have to start harvesting and one thing led to another. One looked for and found this New Holland 1880. Checking the papers, it turned out that the New Holland 1880 originally belonged to a contractor from Lovendegem (B). Lovendegem is quite a distance from Langdorp (B) but quite close to our region. The contractor in question is Irené Cocquyt and in 2022 he has stopped working as a contractor for 15 years Not only the thought came to the harvest day, but also contacts were made with participants from the past One of those participants was there with a New Holland 1770 but wanted to sell it if he could find a Claas SF 80 to chop with Some time later, a Claas was found and they received a phone call in Langdorp that made them very happy! Besides the 1880, there was also a smaller 1770 that came into the barn in Langdorp. They also own a worn New Holland chopper, which is still worked with every year Back to the Retro Harvest Day: Since we are looking for our own participants, we already had two New Holland machines that were interested in coming, but a few weeks beforehand they both cancelled. So we were a little bit at a loss and we asked the Aertgeerts family if they were interested in possibly coming to the event. With great pleasure they said yes wholeheartedly and started measuring and looking at how they were going to bring the chopper to Aalter. Eventually they decided to do the jaws of the chopper and put it on the front of the rocker trailer. The tires were removed from the chipper and they were given space on the Unimog with which they towed the trailer. Fully compliant with Belgian regulations, they headed out to Aalter on Saturday. We offered them a hot meal in the evening after all their hard work We were also eating with our co-workers until we suddenly heard a loud air horn outside the tent. With some co-workers we make our way outside and see a participant arrive with his Ford County tractor. When the participant enters, my franc falls (a Belgian proverb, back in the days of the Belgian franc :D). It occurs to me that the participant has a relationship with the daughter of contractor Cocquyt. And that thus Cocquyt's chopper ends up being at Retro Harvest Day The next day, Retro Harvest Day there is then suddenly contract worker Cocquyt, a man of somewhere in his 80s, suddenly on the Retro Harvest Day and can get acquainted with his old machines and their current owners So you see, a lot of friendships are forged on our harvest day. Not only between participants, but ultimately also between organization and participants!
