Brutus, engaged in surgery.... Last year while chopping wood, my dad noticed that the exhaust was damp with oil. At the time, we thought it was from often standing idle at full speed. The chipper really needs 1000 rpm of PTO or the safety intervenes.... and it just barely reaches 12 at full throttle..... knowing that we don't drive full throttle much that is a bit of a shock to the block I think. Shortly after it started land work, no more problems.... This year he had it back. So I asked where to look. A German acquaintance tipped me to start looking at the valve seals. Due to the high rpm the lubrication pump pumps a lot of oil to the valve rockers and heads. To be on the safe side, I ordered new valves and seals from Had last weekend, with the idea if the need breaks.... when we had a leaky head in 2006 the overhaul said there was a valve that would need attention over time, but it could still last. Back then dad was still in control when it came to costs, now I am.... When dad told me about the problem I immediately said, when I take the heads off again, put in new valves... At first he wasn't too keen, but soon he changed his mind and gave me the approval. This week he already called when I wanted to start working on it. The parts were here in 4 days.... never experienced before. Schlüter and parts is still sometimes a thing unfortunately. Today I put on my surgical costume and after 2 hours of work the heads were on the table. We had run the engine without exhaust collectors before disassembly, it was then clearly visible that the seals were leaking. Tomorrow the heads go away for flattening and fitting the new valves. To be continued!
