Kleintjen, busy on his way to the old home base. This afternoon my dad picked Kleintjen up again, we'll need him again in logging and hopefully in a few weeks for field work.... but for that it has to be dry first.... A week or 2 back my heart stopped for a moment.... I had noticed for a while that one of the frame beams along the engine was cracked. That's because of the front linkage, or actually because of its improper use.... because of the last 2 dry years, it was getting a lot more abuse than usual. To have more pressure on the ground, we had not put the valve in float position. The beating had caused one of the frame beams to crack. Wasn't the first time, by the way, because a front loader used to be on here and had already been welded once.... I was able to repair the frame beam nicely and even reinforced it, but during assembly I noticed something else. It turned out that the cross plate from one side of the engine to the other was also completely torn through, and in both places! As a result, I couldn't get the repaired frame beam in place. I hadn't noticed that yet. I got sick for a moment. So I started disassembling right away. Front linkage off, the whole front frame off... I could just get the cross plate lasered at my work. Meanwhile, I had noticed something else... The radiator had started leaking, that too. So I took it apart and took it to someone who does nothing else but repair and overhaul radiators. While I was at it, I also replaced the V-belts of the oil pump. They were actually one step too long than what is written in the books. Replacing them was not easy either. The size given by Schlüter is really very tight, plus I could hardly reach the pulley on the crankshaft. I finally got it on. Meanwhile some small things were repaired or adjusted. The hour meter had given up again, so that was also taken away for revision and reinstalled in the meantime. Now hopefully I can go back into the field with Kleintjen without any problems...
