New Holland 2405 van Schluterfan

New Holland 2405 | Picture made by Schluterfan

The "older" combinations are also unfortunately disappearing more and more in "Het Meetjesland", just like this one in the photo :(. I believe I took this picture in 2006 or maybe as late as 2007. An acquaintance of mine that I went to school with at the time told me that they were going to harvest that weekend at a farmer in his neighborhood. So I went the Saturday morning with another fellow agricultural photographer to see that area. My acquaintance said Stevens was doing contract work at that farmer, but for some reason it apparently didn't go through. But I did come across another beautiful combination over there nearby, working at another farmer's farm. New Holland harvesters are actually quite rare here, other than here or there a contractor who has one. The most famous in the region here was Marc Busschaert from Aalter, who had 4 of them, including 2 2405s I believe. So the one I came across that Saturday morning. By a miracle even another acquaintance of mine was driving the harvester and was happy to see some pictures of the older New Hollands of Busschaert, because the FX's were actually the main harvesters at that time in the corn. Busschaert is not only known in the region for its forage harvesters, but also for its gigantic fleet of Deutz tractors, in a certain period there were apparently no less than 19 of these green tractors on the farm! Mainly Dx's, most of which were the popular 6.30s. This one in the photo is one of them. In addition to this fleet, they also had some Hanomag tractors, but they were no longer used. Besides the whole bunch of 6.30s, they also had a heavier one, a 6.50 Commander. Yet another special case is the Agrotron 156. To my knowledge, that type was never sold in the Netherlands. These were only sold in Belgium, and had a higher nose. There was an extra air vent between the front lights and the hood. These tractors were built especially for importer Gaspart, who then sold them. In the Meetjesland there are a few, 1 of which runs at Busschaert, and one at De Cock or something like that. In West Flanders, there is also one at De Baets in Loppem, which operates not so far from the New Holland factory in Zedelgem. EDIT: the one in the picture is not a 6.30 but the 6.50 Commandor!
