Photo of a Ford with mounted vicon beet harvester. photo is from the book "from gear to chip" by agricultural mechanization. the following is in the book: potato and beet harvesters built around the tractor. vicon surprised visitors to the 1972 agriculture rai with a self-propelled, two-row potato harvester. this consisted of a ford tractor, the proposal of which had been replaced by a single wheel, and a mitered, two-row wagon harvester. vicon also had a similar, three-row sugar beet harvester with the headers at the front and a wagon harvester at the back. the vicon harvesters were intressant concepts. They also had certain advantages, such as the offset working of the potato harvester. in addition, they were also more economical than other self-propelled harvesters, because the tractor could also be used as an ordinary tractor. nevertheless, they were not a success. dismantling the tractor was a lot of work, and the tractor was obviously needed most during harvest time.
