Photo of a John Deere 6125R with DIY liatris sowing machine working on crust breaking the onions. After heavy rains after sowing the onions, the soil was completely slammed shut. All the oxygen was out. With this machine with roll and shaker teeth behind it, we broke the crust, so that the onions still had a chance to come up. It worked well, but the onions had already lost so much energy that the final result was disappointing. The John-Deere belongs to a neighbor who had the same problem. He had a tractor on the right track width and we had a machine. That way we could help each other.
